What is the National Digital Literacy Assessment (NDLA) tool?

The National Digital Literacy Assessment has been developed by the team at Digital Literacy Licence (DLL) in partnership with LI Research and comprises a series of practical, scenario-based questions designed to assess the level of digital capability held by learners, workers or members of the community.

It is ideal for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) looking to implement a systematic process of screening potential learners prior to enrolment to determine their existing level of skills and knowledge, including their language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy.

Digital Competence Framework for Citizens (DigComp)

The National Digital Literacy Assessment is based on the five focus areas of the Digital Competence Framework for Citizens (DigComp)

  • Focus Area 1: Information and Data Literacy

  • Focus Area 2: Communication and Collaboration

  • Focus Area 3: Digital Content Creation

  • Focus Area 4: Safety

  • Focus Area 5: Problem-Solving

The NDLA is the result of a comprehensive analysis of DigComp, with participants receiving a result for each focus area based on Levels 1 - 4. DigComp is the framework recommended by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) for use by RTOs when reviewing a potential student’s digital literacy.
